More information about long- life Giclée prints.

The Wilhelm Imaging Research Institute formed in 1978, has been conducting tests on light-fastness relating to Giclée prints.

Many factors can effect the life-span of a Giclée print, for instance, Light, Humidity, Moisture, Smoke and Pollution.

The latest information based on testing prints under clear glass at 450 Lux, which is designed to replicate conditions in a well lit office, states that Giclée prints can last for 150 - 200 years.

In fact the pigments used in very old art is sometimes inferior to the pigmented inks used in the modern Giclée print.

Also, Pigmented UV Inks are particularly resistant to high temperature and Humidity, and are relatively Water Resistant when fully dry.

Please note;-

Giclée prints should be treated like any piece of fine art, and protected from direct sunlight and moisture.

Conservation Glass is recommended when framing, as it has a high UV blocking capability. It has also been mentioned that glass should not come into contact with the print surface. Usually the mount will place the print away from the glass surface.
